Ovulation

Ovulation is the process in which the egg better known as the ovum is released from the ovary. At ovulation a women can become pregnant. During a womens life span she will ovulate about 400 times all together. In her fifty's the ova cease to produce and ovulation stops.

Ovulation itself takes place in the course of one or more minutes.

Detecting When Ovulation Begins

Process

  1. Change in mucus or vaginal discharge. Mucus becomes clear which aids the sperm to get through the fallopian tubes.

  2. Body temperature increases because of the release of progesterone.

  3. May get lower abdominal pain that last anywhere from a few minutes to hours.

THE FIRST THREE WEEKS

Process

  1. The ovary grows. This is an enlarged ovary. 1.Fallopian Tube 2.Fringes 3.Ovaries
     
  2. The Fallopian Tube sucks in the ovum.

  3. Fertilization takes place.

  4. The Blastocyst starts its journey down the fallopian tube. Blastocyst: A thin walled hollow structure that contains a cluster of cells from which the embryo arises.

  5. The blastocyst enters the uterus and sheads its outer membrane.

  6. The ovum or blastocyst implants itself into the uterus.

  7. Three weeks later the blastocyst becomes an embryo.
