Pebbles Pregnancy: One day before delivery

Duration of Pregnancy:

The gestation period for a female dog is usually 9 weeks or 56 to 66 days. The average is 63 days. Pebbles went into labor on the 65th day.

During the first few days of pregnancy there aren't many signs. As the weeks progress the female dog may experience morning sickness which only last a few weeks. She may lose her appetite & slowly start to gain weight.

The pregnant dam will sleep a lot throughout the day as time progresses. Offering smaller amounts of food throughout the day may help.

Care & Feeding:

Pregnant females need to be fed extra calories for normal development of the puppies. They should be switched to a quality puppy food. Offerings of cheese, chicken or meats in general can be given to her for her protien and calcium intake. Most brands of puppy foods should contain enough calcium.

If supplementing with vitamins please check with your vet first. It is not necessary to supplement if she is eating properly. I gave my Pebbles daily vitamins crushed with Omega 3 oils mixed into her food.

An expecting dam may lose her appetite weeks or days before delivery. Her abdomine is crowded and may have difficulty with larger meals. Once again smaller servings are better throughout the day.

Signs of Pregnancy:

The first signs that your dam is pregnant is a swollen vulva. After her heat cylce it will stay swallon for a few weeks. She may have morning sickness & lose her appetite.

The dam will also have a discharge throughout the 9 weeks of her pregnancy. She will be very needy and clingy with her owners. Pregnant dams will not play as much and sleep a lot durning the days.

The pregnant dam will also start to gain weight. Their nipples will stay enlargened & start to darken as pregnancy progresses.

Any pups sold can be returned to my home if they are unwanted. I do not wish to see any of my babies placed in animal shelters to be destroyed. A copy of this info will be in my contract. Please enjoy your stay & if there is anything I can help you with please feel free to contact me.
